Seriously, asking 7,750. Um, no thanks. I can find a runner for about half that.

I’m sure you could import a 30 year newer running model from Mexico City for that price. And no rust.

The earlier the beetle the more money. If everything is solid that might not be a terrible price. But I would think $5k would be less cheeky.
Looks like it has tons of original parts. The decklid interior parts and bumpers all look original.

Arent the oval windows worth a bit more?

This might not be that far out of the ballpark. How many oval windows do you see driving around?

Not a lot, but twice the price of a running 60’s-70’s Beetle? That sounds a little nuts to me.

You can get a bay window bus for a couple grand, but a 23 window deluxe can get 6 figures.

I think all air cooled prices are getting nuts. I remember when you could get a driver for 500 bucks, and I'm not even that old, I swear!

I’m thinking 4-5 would make more sense, being a 50’s model. But I’m also skeptical about his claims to no rust underneath.

They’re certainly getting up there. I need to get my Karmann next year before they go up much higher...

I bought my clean ‘71 Super for $1,000 in 1992. Nowadays I can’t find one, locally at least, for less than $5k. It’s nuts!

Could prove to be a good investment.

It’s all in the rear window and other details. Some enthusiast will see this as a bargain.

Come up to Utah! We’ve got plenty of running examples around 4k. With some patience, you can find a non-runner for under 1k.

He did say it came from california then arizona. These things dont seem to rust out nearly as bad as some cars. Looking on samba if the prices there are any guide his asking price isnt crazy. What I like about this car is how it seems to never been messed with and has all the parts even the small trim and stuff. If I had the money I think I would buy it over some painted 4 times messed up non original car. Here you can see what you are getting. I would offer 6500
Or maybe I just really really want another beetle and want to restore one.

He’s unclear on how long it’s been sitting in that outside spot in Utah, though. Maybe it’s worth that much, but prices get trickier when you’re listing it locally.

Well that’s art. Easily worth 10k.

“Ran when parked. Sold as-is, gauranteed good investment. $10k firm”

A few years ago, I recall an okay running and driving Oval Rag for less than that. Oldbug.com had it for sale.

yeah true. i tend to be more ambitious because I have lots of metal working tools and welders and crap and don’t mind doing rust repair. I find it gives balance to the universe or something. I didn’t know you were in utah. I am also living in utah.

That’s funny, because I’ve known you were in Utah for a while.
All of my work is done in my apartment complex parking lot or the usually vacant lot across the street, so fabrication is kind of out of the question.

It’s an oval window - and it has “patina” so. . .
well at least one person thinks it’s worth that, but they already own it.

Not entirely sure if I agree with this one. Bay window prices have been on the upswing for a bit now.

I have a rust hole 2cm by 2cm on my car, no rust anywhere else. Car won’t pass safety so fuck rust

Wow right you are, even vansgons seem to be climbing. Best I could find in my area is a running driving 69 for 3500.

Bay window prices can be a bit nebulous, so good deals still pop up here or there, but really nothing you can rely on. For the most part, you’re looking at $6k as the bare minimum for a decent example.
And if you think normal Vanagon prices are high, go look up the syncro market. Truly and completely absurd pricing, with the westy syncros giving split windows one hell of a run for their money.

Please tell me where you can find an running, black-plate Oval for half that, I’ll seriously bring a trailer right now.
